It has been used.
Basically Sony changed the key in later fw's.

It's ECDSA over AES and SHA1 secured ELF.. Sony just changed keys compatible with the real private key in cell ROM which to date hasn't been compromised. Fa1loverflow actually tried too(watch their presentation where they admit to not being about to find anything with ROM)..
P.S. bootldr is ECDSA->DEFLATE->FLAT_RISC this is why any bruting attempts have failed.. ROM is threaded and managed in SDRAM with DMA to XDR(so it'll never be dumped even by glitching). Geohot and fa1loverflow basically did the equivalent of me claiming MS defeat with a RPC exploit.. MS does patch Tuesday and because of the support sales keep increasing..
